High Performance PM ApplicationsHigh Performance Powder Metal components are rapidly becoming an effective alternative to forgings, stampings, castings, and machined parts. High Performance PM provides a cost-effective, high-volume process alternative to the labor-intensive investment casting process. High Performance PM is especially well suited for components requiring fine finishes and bearing properties, as well as features requiring close production tolerances, irregular external or internal shapes, long holes, and blind internal features. The versatility of powder metallurgy (PM) lends itself to a wide range of applications for many industries. The opportunity to select from a variety of pre-alloyed powders as well as the option to vary the composition and resulting properties with elemental additions provides PM with a fairly unique advantage. Although Powder Metal technology can be a cost-effective solution for lower volumes, the cost of molding tools associated with a high volume process may discourage lower volume applications.
