Engineered Porosity PM ApplicationsIn early applications, porous metal parts solved fuel filter problems.
Filters became the best-known applications, but Engineered Porosity
developed scores of solutions for a variety of industries.
Customers with applications as diverse as writing instruments, military ammunition, and communication equipment consider Engineered Porosity as an excellent process solution. Engineered Porosity provides designers with a unique opportunity to work with components that allow the flow of vapor but not liquids. Further, the porous medium can operate as a precision orifice, without concern for the blockage that may occur with a single, restrictive opening. Engineered Porosity components have been used as time delays by coupling the part's resistance with the overall system's volume, creating the equivalent of an electronic resistance-capacitance circuit. Acoustical, pneumatic and vacuum applications utilize Engineered Porosity's ability to control permeability, while electronic applications benefit from porous, water-repellent breathers.
